Bowl Time! Oh Joy!
01 / 03 / 2009

Man, it's that college bowl time of the year...college football for almost 2 weeks straight!

OK, If you look at when I posted this, you’d see I’m a tad late!  But that’s because I’ve been watching bowl games!  And, I’m loving it!

Now, I’d be the first to admit, bowls like the “San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl” sounds ridiculous, and there are so many of them, you can hardly count them, but after next weekend, there will be no more college football for 8 more months.  So what can I say, besides bring on the long name bowl games.  Besides, most of them have pretty decent to watch anyways.  Yeah, you have some of your colossal blow-outs like the Florida State vs. Wisconsin game (42-13), but even still that’s entertaining (I like watching those distraught fans that are starting they figure out they’ve spent too much money or their tickets when their team is getting blown away by 30 in the first half...priceless).

My Portfolio
08 / 15 / 2008

So, it took me a while but I finally got around to putting some of my work up.

My portfolio is going to just show off some of my latest web and print jobs.  It’s times like this you realize just how far design (especially web design) has come and the trends that you seem to be influenced by.  I sure am glad I got past the “heavy graphics & everything has to be flash” phase of my life.

By all means feel free to look around.  On some I’ll leave comments open for a while.

960px Grid Tutorial
07 / 24 / 2008

3point7designs.com has a grid tool that's a must have. Just load up Photoshop and start designing your website.

It’s pretty useful yet easy to figure out how to use.  But most of all it eliminates you having to bring up calculator, pen and/or paper to figure out how your columns are going to be set up grin

The template has guide for a three column 20px gutter design. They then have layers of light blocked out colors to help establish both column for using the rule of thirds, and additionally it is broken down into six columns of 20px gutters. You can now flesh out your design on top of the shades thus helping you keep a consistent grid and make placement of elements easier.

Blogging With Nothing To Say
07 / 24 / 2008

The most ironic thing about giving a blog to someone like me: usually I don't have that much to say.

The whole idea came from just looking around online.  I wanted to put my portfolio up, but I didn’t want to leave it as just a simple gallery of images.  The more I “shopped” around the web for ideas, the more blog/portfolio combos I found.  Eventually, I said, “Hey!  I can do that!” So, I started making a web page -easy.  Configured the database and code to work with the template - no problem.  Opened up the content editor to begin my 1st blog and waited… and waited… and waited.  Before you know it, I know a good 30 minutes had gone by and I haven’t even started typing yet.  What would be my first blog?  What could I possibly say that would keep someone’s attention long enough that having a blog wouldn’t seem like a waste of time.  So, I started writing about my son… and then life experiences… even origami.  Anything that came to mind.  What came out was, the beginning of 4 or 5 1st stories and even some categories that I could sort by.  Then I realized, having a blog isn’t that hard… and I have …
